Ted and his job coach, Kelly, take a break from harvesting vegetables at Wellspring Gardens in Converse, Texas
LOVED ONES CORNER
Meet Ted McCrehan
Edward “Ted” McCrehan lives in the greater Washington, DC, area, in a small town called Washington Grove. He participates in a program on weekdays during which he attends all kinds of classes and fitness programs in the community. He has had several jobs, including working at a hair salon, at our Town Hall, and at a community food kitchen. Ted loves to play tricks on us, like hiding potatoes in his backpack! We never know what we’ll find behind a chair, under a pillow, or who knows where. And Ted likes to pretend that he has an alter ego who actually does the mischief. He will say to us, “It wasn’t me, it was Edward!”
Favorite hobbies: Bowling, hiking, shopping, watching movies
Favorite foods: Hamburgers, Coke, birthday cake. But he really loves to eat everything!
Favorite TV shows: Bunk’d, Full House, Spiderman, anything with Jim Carrey
Favorite animal: Lions (Lion King, of course), Bears (Ted Bear), and Tanner (our dog, who is mostly American Foxhound)
Favorite CherishAbility programs: Loved One Gatherings, Family Camp, and the Vocational Training Program!
“Within the first few moments of our arrival at Wellspring Gardens, I knew that Ted was in good hands with the CherishAbility staff that would be working with him. I had a great hope and confidence that Ted was going to learn a lot during the week and express greater independence and initiative in that tangible atmosphere of respect and love.
Shortly after the program when we returned home, an opportunity opened up to work for our town. Ted’s experience in the Vocational Training Program made him a perfect candidate for this job. He applied for—and got—the paying job! He earned good recognition around town as a result, and lots of people have thanked him for his good work.”
